Port des Tuiles

It is from this port that the tiles produced in Biganos were shipped on barges that took them to all the ports of the Basin to the oyster farmers who collected their oyster spat. This use of tiles is still in use today. At low tide, the cows waded across the river, thus joining the salt meadows of the Ile de Malprat. Today, with its thirty or so huts, this port remains a very wild place, adorned with "cotton trees" (baccaris) and reeds, and placed under the protection of the Conservatoire de l'Espace Littoral et des Rivages Lacustres. The port has 22 wharves managed by the town (draught from 0 to 1.20 m depending on the tides, slipway and fishermen's huts). Shops are 2 km away.
